Underground Distribution

Metro’s Underground Utilities Ordinance (BL2005-628) requires lines to be buried underground in all new residential developments.  This ordinance:

• Improves the appearance of Nashville’s residential subdivisions
• Allows for a wider variety of acceptable street trees
• Eliminates the expense of tree trimming and overhead wire maintenance
• Allows street trees to grow to their natural canopy
• Creates more attractive streetscapes for pedestrians and motorists
• Reduces the number of power outages
