Generation Partners

Greater opportunity, greater reward for environmental investment.  Customers produce their own green energy to be sold to TVA.  The power generated is used to increase the amount of green power available to Green Power Switch® participants in the Tennessee Valley.

How It Works

  • Homeowners or small businesses must install a photovoltaic (solar) or wind generation system capable of producing at least 0.5 kilowatt and no more than 50 kilowatts.
  • Interconnection and safety equipment must be listed by Underwriters Laboratory (UL) or Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL).
  • The system must be manufactured and installed in compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC).
  • TVA purchases 100-percent of the green power at a rate of 15 cents per kilowatt-hour.  Payment is made in the form of a credit on your monthly electric bill.

Costs and Benefits

Becoming a Generation Partner is a big commitment.  Installation can cost anywhere from $8,000 to $20,000, depending on the generation capacity of the unit.  Those costs are the customer's responsibility.  The immediate benefit is a lower energy bill, since 15 cents for every kilowatt-hour of power generated is credited to the account.

Three Reasons to Get Connected

1.  It's good for the Valley.

By choosing to become a Generation Partner, you help advance the technology and increase the amount of electricity generated from renewable resources, helping preserve and improve the Valley's environment.

2.  It's good for you.

Not only will you feel good about helping the environment, you'll be rewarded financially.  Credits on your power bill for each kilowatt-hour of green power you produce will reduce energy costs for your home or business.

3.  It's good for the future.

Keeping the Valley a beautiful and healthy place to live is the best legacy we can leave our children and future generations.
