Year-End Accomplishments Our core responsibility at NES is to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable electricity. We want to provide our customers with a level of service they expect and deserve. At the same time, we are dedicated to being a good corporate citizen, to facilitating growth, and to supporting the economic and environmental health and infrastructure of our region. Our employees accomplish many tasks on a daily basis. Some are large, multi-million dollar projects that are readily visible, such as the Music City Center, but many are smaller achievements that have an impact on individual customers and our entire community. The following is a partial list of accomplishments for 2010-2011: -
Awarded the Arbor Day Foundation's Tree Line USA Certification for the third year. -
Installed 40 miles of primary cable, 12 miles of secondary cable, and 10 miles of control cable. -
Completed major upgrades at West, Radnor, South, and North Substations. -
Completed the cutover of the Demonbreun Substation to the new Peabody Substation. -
Completed shafts & tunnel boring for 69kV underground transmission line project near the new Music City Center. -
Hosted the 2011 APPA Lineworkers Rodeo at Gaylord Opryland, one of the most successful and well-attended rodeos in recent years. -
Added three Nissan Leaf electric vehicles to the NES fleet. -
Answered approximately 1.9 million calls in the Customer Service call center and over 7,300 calls to the Vegetation Management hotline. -
Promoted the In-Home Energy Evaluation Program with over 2,000 customers participating and over 1,000 completing recommended energy efficiency improvements. -
Assisted with the development of curriculum for a proposed Energy & Power Academy at Maplewood High School. -
Received Universal Public Purchasing Certification Council award for 100% certification of Procurement buying and management staff. -
Purchased 125 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for NES operations vehicles. -
Restored West Service Center to pre-flood condition. -
Reduced electrical consumption in the main NES building by 11% and water consumption by 18%. -
Launched an electronic job application system eliminating the need to accept paper applications.
