Deposit Fee

New customers will need to pay a deposit (based on a projected two month bill) before service can be connected.  In some cases, that fee can be waived:

  • Satisfactory Credit - Proof of adequate financial information or satisfactory payment history from any utility for a minimum of one year.
  • Irrevocable Letter of Credit - Posted by any commercial customer for a minimum of three years, a local bank must execute this on the form.
  • Indemnity Bond - Posted by any commercial customer for a minimum of three years, the customer must execute this item through an insurance company.  The minimum Indemnity Bond is $1,000.

Commercial deposits will be held for a minimum of 36 months. Deposits are automatically applied to the account after satisfactory payment history is established or upon termination of service.  Interest is paid on all deposits that are held for one year.  These deposits accrue simple interest on the principal at a rate determined on the first working day of each year.  The rate is equivalent to the one year Treasury Bill, minus 175 basis points, rounded off to the nearest half percent.  That interest is then credited to the customer's account.
