Spotlight on GeothermalGovernor's MansionThe first major renovation at the Tennessee Residence since 1949 included the installation of a 110-ton geothermal HVAC unit which uses the Earth to heat and cool the home. Tony Viglietti, NES senior energy services specialist, worked with local architects and the Tennessee State Architects Office to make sure the structure was as energy efficient as possible. The team is working towards a LEED certification, which can be challenging for a historical home like the Tennessee Residence. LEED, an acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Other energy saving improvements include dual-pane and interior storm windows, attic ventilation, and energy efficient lighting. |
