NES InitiativesEthanol & Bio-Diesel Vehicles NES has 108 light-duty vehicles and trucks, used by field employees, which are capable of running on E85 ethanol and bio-diesel unleaded fuels. An E85 tank is on-site for company drivers to fill up before heading out to work. NES is one of the first companies in Middle Tennessee to have a tank of this kind. Reducing SF6 Emissions NES is an active participant in the Environmental Protection Agency's SF6 Emissions Reduction Partnership. NES has agreed to voluntarily monitor, inventory, and look for ways to reduce sources of SF6 discharges from its power system. Recycling Materials NES recycles and reuses equipment and supplies that are used every day to provide electricity to the Nashville area. Recycled materials include scrap metal, light bulbs and utility poles. Environmental Roundtable The NES Environmental Team hosts a semi-annual roundtable to discuss current environmental concerns. Guest speakers include regulatory officials, utility interest groups, manufacturers, and employees from other utilities. NES believes it's crucial to stay up-to-date on alternative approaches to compliance.
