NES Prepares for Hurricane Katrina

NASHVILLE, TN- Nashville Electric Service (NES) crews are preparing for Hurricane Katrina as it makes its way towards the Tennessee Valley.

NES trucks have been fueled, assessment teams are on alert and tree trimming crews are ready to clear lines when the storm hits.

NES spokesperson Teresa Corlew says, "We are planning for the worst. This storm could cause major power outages across Middle Tennessee. People who depend on electricity for medical reasons need to make arrangements now in case their power goes out."

Residents should have emergency supplies on hand, including:

• Batteries and flashlights
• Portable radio
• Battery-powered clock
• Nonperishable food items and bottled water
• Cell phone or single-line telephone (cordless phones don't work without electricity)

Forecasters are calling for damaging winds of 25-35 mph, flooding rains and the potential for isolated tornados. NES' backup disaster recovery site is fully operational and ready to use in the event of serious damage to NES' main building.
